Ever felt like you were on Candid Camera? (For those of you too young to know about this program, you may be better able to identify with Ashton Kutcher’s program, “Pimped”.)
I had one of those experiences last week when I was visiting my AT&T West friends in San Ramon, California.
Walking into the fourth floor wing where my heroes of the infrastructure live and work longer hours than they should, the scene was too good to be true. There, in the suite area of the network vice presidents was a stack – not just one issue – but a stack of the last eight OSP™ issues. The little pile of mags lie on the top ledge of LeKeisha Davis’s desk. LeKeisha is the executive assistant of Teri Lindsay, VP - U-verse Field Operations (West), AT&T.
As I walked past that wonderful little pile, I looked at my host, Byron McDaniel, and the following conversation ensued.
“Did you pay her to do that?” Sharon asked quizzically.
“Nope. She did it on her own,” Byron replied. He grinned at LeKeisa with eye contact telling her she just scored big points.
“Whoa.” Sharon looked around for the camera. (Heck, I knew I didn’t pay anyone to stack OSP™s in the executive suites and I didn’t see one other visible publication there. This had to be a set-up. Even so, it was a moment to cherish for this editor who is always amazed when people actually read her stuff.)
“How cool is this!” Sharon quietly cheered.
“Don’t look so shocked.” Byron added.
“Oh, no, I’m not. Of course, I know OSP™ is read. We just got back a great reader survey. But heck, I had no idea people would actually display OSP™s! We’re now officially a coffee-table book at AT&T!” Sharon proudly exclaimed.
“Well, let’s not go that far.” Byron added.
“Humph,” Sharon quipped, giddily enjoying the moment. “It may be just a pile of magazines in your mind. But in my mind, this is a highly artistic coffee table display. I need a picture to preserve this moment,” Sharon earnestly rebutted, handing Byron her camera. Click.
There you have it, everyone. A happy ending! I can officially say that our little OSP™ brand is proudly displayed in the network executive’s offices of AT&T West! AND I have a picture to prove it!
