Corning Cable Systems Highlights Deployment Flexibility
Corning Cable Systems displayed its expanded portfolio of preconnectorized fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) products and solutions through exhibits and hands-on demonstrations at the recent OSP EXPO 2009 in Minneapolis.
In Corning’s exhibit, customers had first-hand experience with the two distinct variations of Corning’s new OptiSheath® UltraNAP™ Outside Plant Terminals. This innovative combination of multi-fiber terminal connections and single-fiber drop cable connections provides enhanced design and deployment flexibility, increased deployment speed and reduced initial installation cost. Because of their patent-pending fiber routing scheme, OptiSheath UltraNAP Terminals offer cost deferment possibilities as well.
Branch-connected OptiSheath UltraNAP Terminals decrease the number of road crossings required and increase capital deferment options, providing an opportunity to reduce overall installed costs. The series-connected design of the OptiSheath UltraNAP Terminals allows users to daisy chain up to three terminals together. This provides shorter distribution cable lengths and is an ideal solution for cul-de-sacs or small areas not easily reached with the primary distribution cable.
The Corning Cable Systems exhibit also included hands-on demonstrations of the FuseFlex™ Termination System. Designed for FTTx applications, the termination system includes a “near zero-length” pigtail. The stub fiber installed in the FuseFlex Termination System connector is polished in the factory, which eliminates the need for field polishing, increases the quality of the termination and greatly reduces connector installation time.
In addition to the exhibit, Corning Cable Systems participated in the following educational events at the conference:
- Corning Cable Systems’ Ryan Spillane presented “The Economics of Branch-connected Optical Terminals.” The presentation addressed some of the more significant recent innovations that are revolutionizing FTTx network installation techniques and the cost model of its deployment.
- Dr. Bernhard Deutsch of Corning Cable Systems joined five industry experts in OSP® Magazine’s 2009 Thought Leaders Live Panel Discussion at the Day Two keynote presentation.
